Why counselling?
International living can be an enriching and rewarding experience, but it also brings challenges that are often unseen.
Whether you've recently relocated or have been living overseas for many years, life abroad can affect your sense of identity, relationships, family life, and emotional wellbeing. Often, new challenges emerge as careers evolve, children grow up, relationships change, or major life transitions unfold far from familiar support networks.
Counselling offers a supportive space to make sense of these experiences, develop greater self-understanding, and find ways of moving forward.
Common reasons people seek support
You may recognise some of the following:
Feeling lonely, isolated, or struggling to find a sense of belonging
Questions around identity, purpose, or where "home" is
Relationship challenges, including cross-cultural relationships and changing family dynamics
Parenting abroad or balancing family life with work and other demands
Career uncertainty, job loss, or changing professional direction
Navigating major life transitions, such as becoming a parent, midlife, children leaving home, or retirement
Grief, loss, or supporting loved ones from a distance
Feeling caught between cultures or facing difficult decisions about staying, returning home, or moving again
Stress, anxiety, overwhelm, or burnout

How counselling can help
Counselling cannot remove the challenges of modern life, relocation, international-living, or change, but it can help you:
Understand and process your experiences
Re-write your story into one that serves you now
Develop greater self-awareness
Strengthen resilience and coping strategies
Navigate relationships and family dynamics
Explore and strengthen your communication style
Reconnect with your values and priorities
Build a stronger sense of identity and belonging
What to expect
You might be feeling unsure about counselling, so let me explain what to expect.
Counselling offers a confidential, non-judgemental space where you can explore whatever’s on your mind. It’s time for you to pause, reflect, and reconnect with yourself.
I work integratively, which means I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches to suit your unique needs and preferences. My role is to support you with curiosity, compassion, and care - helping you make sense of your story, recognise patterns, and discover ways forward that feel manageable and meaningful.
At the heart of my work is a humanistic philosophy: I see you as the expert in your own life and trust in your innate capacity to grow and heal. Depending on what feels most helpful for you, I may suggest aspects of various approaches which offer practical tools and deeper insights, such as:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)
You don’t need to know anything about these models before starting; our work together will be guided by your pace, your story, and what feels most helpful to you. The most important part is that you feel heard, supported, and empowered as we explore your path forward.
